The awards ceremony is slated for July and the launch was attended by renowned industry players including J-Town, Okyeame Kwame, Richie Mensah, Scientific, and Ignace Hego, Chief Executive of 4Syte.
Hosts of 4syte TV, Jeremie and Jay Foli, were MCs for the launch that saw organizers explaining that the event was aimed at celebrating Hip Hop across the African continent. There are 19 categories.
“Our approach to nominations can be compared to the MAMAs or the Channel O Music Video Awards among others.
Each category represents a combination of both Ghana’s finest Hiphop talent and a cross-section of that of Africa well.
Nominations would include Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Angola amongst others,” organizers noted.
4syte is well-recognized for rewarding winners with most creatively crafted award pieces.
A statement issued by the organizers noted: “We believe that Hiplife evolved from Hiphop and aspire to use the award to leave an indelible market not only in Ghana but Africa’s Hiphop industry at large.
“Hiplife played a vital role in educating Ghanaians on the fundamentals of Hiphop.
4syte will like to tip its hat off to Reggie Rockstone for pioneering the Hiplife movement.
Legends like Reggie Rockstone, NFL, and Talking Drums paved the way towards making Hiphop acceptable to the Ghanaian culture.”
