Film Producers Fight For New Association

A group of film producers who are not happy with the activities of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) yesterday told BEATWAVES that they were working behind closed doors to form a new association to promote the interest of the stakeholders.

The new association, which is yet to be registered, is made up of renowned Ghanaian movie producers and marketers whose interest is to promote peace and harmony to propel the growth of the movie industry in Ghana.

According to the group, the decision to form the new association was influenced by what they saw as the lack of transparency and unfairness that had characterized the affairs of the already existing one.

The group alleged the film industry in Ghana was being run by mafias who had hijacked the industry and had created so many problems for the stakeholders.

They were of the view that based on the problems facing the industry, many stakeholders were losing interest in the movie business.

They disclosed that stakeholders who did not belong to mafia groups in the industry always found it difficult to release their films.

The group noted that the formation of the new association would help prevent the unnecessary tension and confusion associated with the industry, adding that the association would promote greater participation and transparency at all levels.
